5 Things to Remember When Planning a Destination Wedding

Walking down the aisle next to the turquoise waters of Greece. Saying ‘I do’ under the swaying palm trees in the Caribbean. Having the reception in the courtyard of a 15th-century French chateau. It is all possible! But…

Do your Research

Not only do you have to worry about the standard issues like venue hire, caterers, and celebrants, you will have to organise it all over the phone and internet. That makes research so much more important. You will also have to check local laws to see if you can get legally married in the country of your choosing. And do not forget to research things like local customs and norms.

Find a Venue that Meets Your Needs

Probably the most important factor in a destination wedding is the venue. You’ll be relying on them to sort out many of the details you won’t be able to. Ideally, you want a venue that specialises in entire wedding packages. That way, you know they are at least somewhat experienced and will be able to check reviews and photos.

Hire a Local Wedding Planner

No matter how happy you are with the venue and how spectacular the package sounds, chances are you still want someone on the ground who you can rely upon. There is likely going to be some customisations to the ceremony or décor that you want to be made. Having close contact with a local will help ease your fears also.

Visit Your Location Before Hand

Most people decide on a location rather than a venue first. And chances are there is more than one ideal venue in that location. So, this is a perfect excuse for a mini holiday to check out your wedding location, scout venues and meet a wedding planner. You’ll get a good feel for the location, and if it disappoints, better it is before you’ve paid deposits.

Enjoy It

It might feel like your wedding is out of your control at times. That is a curse and a blessing! You literally cannot control every little detail, so just let it go. If you’ve done your due diligence, you won’t have anything to worry about. Pack your bags and sail away to your dream wedding.
